In the Name of Equality

Check out these remarks by Bono (it takes a little time to read, but well worth it). Yes, Bono. Lead singer of U2. So should we be surprised by the intelligence of the speech, the originality of the speech? Should we think his ideas are amazing because, wow! this is a celebrity saying these things? I'm not sure. It's a well thought out thought. Well-written, well-expressed. Although a few curses could've driven home the idea a little better.

The thing of it is: Bono's using his unequalled and unparalleled success as an intelligent and outspoken public figure to promote equality and justice for all. All things be equal though (i.e. if it were Joe Schmoe making the same statements), I'd still agree with the speech. And that's the barometer.

It is interesting that Bono is a self-acclaimed spokesperson for equality and justice. I appreciate his 'out-of-the-box' agenda for the world's poor. America can certainly increase its support yet he addresses those who are part of the choir. Those who are doing, he wants them to do more! Yet, a true champion for the oppressed does more than pontificate to those who have the means and need a little guilt prodding. The true champion goes face to face with the oppressors themselves and calls them to account! He yells for those who cannot...dare not...to those who mock the generosity of the world and live in their putrid-riches. Let Bono march into the evil palaces of the Sudan, face-to-face with the robbers, cameras blazing, and challenge them! Otherwise, give him a donation and move on.

I would have to say that that was a good read. I believe in what Bono is doing, and that his intentions are good. Someone needs to do something about Africa. When I look at the world, I sometimes forget about the entire continent. The US should be invading those countries in Africa, whose governments are corrupt and focus their might on people who want to be saved, and who want to live.

I fine Bono to be a person of importance regarding this fight. I believe that we need to address the choir. 5g's has thought other wise. I believe that going face to face is not for everyone, we need the behind the scenes people to fuel and praise and support the people that are in the trenches. We need these people (Bono)and those alike to stand up to government and request money and aid from people (the choir) that you will never meet face to face. I leave you with this. Turn to the gospel of Matthew 25:40 "The King will reply,'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." My question this morning is what are you doing?

Bean46 presents an interesting point but is Bono achieving such success. Take them on a march to the evil dens of power and corruption. March as MLK marched, risking it all.
Storm those palaces of darkness, reveal the light. Invade! Invade!
IF Sean Penn, at al, can be idiots with no standard of truth then Bono can take truth, with support, and win...even if he may lose more than he wants.

By the way, Mic Jagger is doing a benefit concert to save antiquities from around the world. It figures, he's covering his retirement.
