A Thought

I remember where I was five years ago. The world remembers where it was. It is a day, a time, an event we will not forget. Words and even memories can't summon the emotion of that day.

I offer these words to a song by Sandra McCracken:

To the ones left behind who are picking up the pieces
of planes, bombs, and buildings of innocence and evil
‘Cause when the news and noise and flowers die,
and you still wake up alone
There is a God who knows every tear you cry,
And this world is on His shoulders.

Perhaps it may bring you comfort when your memories and thoughts of 9.11.2001 do not.

I still recall the horrorful stares of family members who came to Logan Airport to be interviewed by the FBI and comforted by a cadre of ministers from all branches of Christianity and Judaism.

A Fireman's Prayer.

when I am called to duty, God wherever flames may rage Give me the strength to save some life whatever be its age. Help me embrace a little child before it is too late Or save an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out. i want to fill my calling and to give the best in me. To guard my every neighbor and protect their property. And if according to your will I have to lose my life. Please bless with your protecting hand my family, childern, and my wife.

You know I grew up wanting to be a fireman but you know the path lead me in a different direction. Now I have the chance to not only be a firefighter but to hopefully save a few from the fire! It was a sad day for me knowing that there was no chance that I could go and help a fellow brother on that September 11. I sat in Maine looking and watching the news I could not take my eyes off of the TV. To this day I cannot watch the TV shows and movies about it. It makes me sick. 343 is a number that will forever be in my mind. I was thinking about that number this evening and looking around my station and thinking about the Bible. The Bible is full of little things to get us through our days here while we are on this journey. Here is something that I want you to think about.

“This is my command: love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:12-13

How many people do you know, live by this command? To start you 343.

You will never know the person or people in a "flee or fight" situation until it occurs. Regardless of training, drills or experience when the moment arises it will be your character(your deep inner being) that will determine if you "flee or fight". Then and only then will those other attributes kick in.

You think so. So tell me, why do I run into burning buildings when you’re running out? Do you think I have time to pick and choose who I die for? It could be you some night at 3 in the morning. What choice would you like me to make then? it's to hot I need to get out(flee) or its to hot but I know there is someone there(fight)

You missed the point and thus protest much too much. Hope you have your "depends" on when you are fleeing.

I still don’t think so. After I have read and re-read what you have posted. I still believe that you have it or you don’t. They (attributes) just don’t kick in one day in the time of need. You have it or your don’t. You usually don’t have time to think that slow when it come to making a life changing action. I would not think twice about giving my life, however if I new and if I could work on a situation to make the problem better you bet I would. Otherwise we are going together.
