Trust me, we've told Isaac his cast is no longer there. And it's not that I think he doesn't believe us, or that maybe we're out of touch parents; maybe it's his first act of rebellion. Call it Adorable Anarchy then.

I don't think it is any of the issues you raised. He is attempting to corner the sympathy vote. Best solution is to tie a cup on the leg, let him collect money in it.
Maybe he was inspired by the Curt Schilling "fake bloody sock" controversy.
I think you better get him into physical therapy, stat!
